We believe that close engagement and collaboration with our raw material suppliers provides us the best opportunities to support development of sustainability and proactive mitigation of risks within our supply chains.
Neste actively engages with its renewable raw material suppliers through workshops to collaboratively develop innovative solutions in the supply chain, continuously improve sustainability, and resolve any grievances where they occur. We have arranged these workshops for all our palm oil suppliers since 2015 to foster dialogue and hear about our suppliers’ concerns. The workshops also provide us the opportunity to clarify our requirements and expectations. The topics of these workshops have ranged from human and labor rights to deforestation and supply chain traceability.
Two-day grievance mechanism workshop
In August 2021, Neste organized a two-day grievance mechanism workshop for its direct suppliers to engage in capacity building, guide them in establishing effective grievance mechanisms and share best practices and practical steps for addressing No Deforestation, Peat and Exploitation (NDPE) related grievances.
Topics that were covered during the workshop included for example, socialization of Neste’s own grievance mechanism, introduction to grievance resolution process and best practices, sharing grievance handling from expert practitioners, GAR and Musim Mas, 3rd party supplier engagement strategy, suspension and re-entry criteria, and transparency and reporting.
