Making the right choice for the environment
For the past 25 years, 18 Trucking has provided construction-related trucking services in the San Francisco Bay Area. The family-owned business based in Hayward, California, is committed to being a civic-minded and ecologically friendly trucking company.
The father-son team’s desire to support a more sustainable fleet and create a sustainable business model for future generations led them to make the switch to Neste MY Renewable Diesel.
By partnering with companies, like 18 Trucking, who share the same goal of creating a healthier planet for our children, Neste is initiating change that runs on renewables - starting with a few meaningful actions or decisions. For 18 Trucking, the transition to renewable diesel was a small and easy switch with a big impact that helps combat climate change.
18 Trucking
Dispatches 50 to 100 trucks to the construction-trucking industry on a typical day
Reduced CO2 output by 2,690 metric tons per year - equivalent to planting 44,480 trees
Transformed operations to reduce fuel maintenance and environmental impact
3 Challenges 18 Trucking wanted to solve:
1. Reduce carbon footprint to support sustainability efforts
2. Use existing vehicles with no modifications
3. Improve maintenance to increase life-span of fleet
Solution
In 2017, 18 Trucking upgraded its whole fleet of over 100 vehicles to Neste MY Renewable Diesel. 18 Trucking’s vehicles running on renewable diesel emit up to 75% less greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the life cycle compared to fossil diesel.
“At the end of the day, you feel good that not only you are doing the right thing, it is representing more business. I see this industry and my work heading in that direction.”
- Gustavo De Leon, Vice President
Results
Since making the switch, 18 Trucking has prevented more than 2,690 metric tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere every year - roughly the same climate benefit as planting 44,480 trees. In addition, 18 Trucking has reported lower maintenance expenses and reduced fleet downtime.
It’s up to businesses to make the change today so that our children can have a sustainable future.
